Joan Hammeal: Artist of the month for April & May, 2009
Joan Hammeal, a Clinton artist, is the Clinton Art Society’s Artist for the Months of April and May, 2009 at the Liberty Bank, located on Route One in Clinton, CT. Her artwork can viewed during normal business hours.
Joan received her BA degree from Smith College after attending the Hartford College for Women. She has exhibited her oil paintings widely in juried shows and has won numerous awards. Many of her paintings are held in private and corporate collections. Besides being a member of the Clinton Art Society, she belongs to the Madison Art Society, Guilford Art League, the New Haven Paint and Clay, and the Hamden Art League.
In talking with Joan, she said that "my oil paintings are my personal commentary on nature. It is my way of communicating an impression or feeling without the use words". Her basic vocabulary is the colors, textures, and light in her canvases. She wants to convey the sensitivity of nature's moods.
