Gloria Nillson: Featured Artist for September 2008
Gloria Nilsson, a Killingworth artist, can be found painting the landscape en plein air, or in the studio creating a still life. She works in pastel, watercolor or oils. Her degree in Graphic Design is from the Pratt Institute, New York, NY. It has contributed to her solid knowledge of the essential elements of good design. Gloria has studied under national master painters such as: Ellie Bender, Karen Winslow and Diane Aeschlimen.
In speaking with Gloria, she finds that she as an artist needs to be a window for the eyes of the masses. Images visualized by the artist on a constant daily basis are unfortunately just passed over, even ignored by the general public. She is constantly inspired to bring these gems of light and color to the attention of the viewer, in hopes that from that moment on they will look at the world around them with an enlightened spirit.
Nilsson has served on the executive board for the Cheshire Art League. She is an Elected Artist member in the Madison Art Society, and she is a member of the Guilford Art League, Clinton Art Society, the Shoreline Alliance of the Arts, Lyme Art Association and the Arts Center at Killingworth, where she is providing art instruction in pastels, calligraphy and fashion illustration. She also provides substitute art instruction at the Chester Village West Retirement Community. Gloria has been honored with several awards including 2008 Silver Award Art Majeur International. Her work has been exhibited in numerous juried shows, public venues and outdoor exhibitions in Connecticut.
